In this world of so many types of business, we see a lot of people moving from job to job. A large percentage of the people changing jobs are the ones who cannot do the job they are leaving. Last year, I remember a president of a large Canadian technology firm saying how appreciative he was that his American competition hired two slackers (employees) that had been in his organization.

Visa and Mastercard Credit Card Companies have implemented some very common sense standards for their merchants to uphold in order to connect to their system networks and accept their credit cards. These same standards could be applied to any enterprise. How secure is your organization?

In this day and age with articles about global warming, biodiversity loss and chemicals in the environment popping up almost daily in the media it has become apparent that all companies – small and large – now need to consider environmental issues in their management planning. The question for most is where to begin.

In the US, from what we understand, if a credit card customer reports a strange charge on their card to the credit card issuing bank or financial institution is required by law to hold or stop the payment from the card company to the merchant. In Japan, the story is quite different. Most credit card companies will refund your money if you get a charge from somewhere you don’t know or remember.

1) Information Technology (IT) is a constantly changing. It is difficult to keep up with it.

2) Keeping engineers in a challenging and interesting environment is near impossible. This tends towards churn in IT staffing.

3) Filtering the “geeks” from the solid system engineers is a lot of work. The best person to manage engineers are engineers.
