We seem to have a serious situation here with the earthquake damage to the nuclear reactors in Fukushima. From the news, we really don’t know the exact situation. But we do know what is going on in Tokyo.
Some companies have sent people to Osaka, banks have moved to their disaster recovery centers in Western Japan. Some expats with children have left Japan due to the concern about radiation for their children to HK, the US, or Korea. Most multinational companies are running skeleton crews in their Tokyo offices and having everyone else work from home. Japanese factories seem to be closed while companies in Tokyo are operating as usual despite the difficulties with trains and power outages. Japanese companies seem to operating normally.
The news may be making a bigger deal out of it than it is, however if you have the ability to take a little vacation away from Tokyo this week, that might be a good idea at least through Friday, 18 March. Let’s be monitoring the situation as well.
