Apple iOS 5 Compatibility Update

This bulletin is to inform ShoreTel field teams and partners of the compatibility status of the ShoreTel Mobility and Communicator products with Apple iOS 5.

Product Description / Solution Overview
On October 12, 2011 Apple released the iOS 5 software update for customers. This free iOS update supports the following devices: iPhone 3GS/4/4S, iPod touch 3G/4G, iPad 1/2.

At this time, the ShoreTel RoamAnywhere Client (part of ShoreTel Mobility) is COMPATIBLE with iOS 5 with minor user interface defects that do not prevent operation. The user interface defects are that in the application notification dialog windows, the buttons are displayed underneath some text but remain operational.

At this time, the ShoreTel Communicator is NOT COMPATIBLE with iOS 5 due to several application errors that cause the application to exit when voice mail or call history are accessed. Customers should not upgrade to iOS 5 (nor iPhone 4S) at this time or they will lose the ability to utilize the ShoreTel Communicator application.

Target Customers
All existing ShoreTel Communicator Mobile and ShoreTel Mobility customers and partners are affected by this announcement.

Migration / Transition Options
Customers who utilize ShoreTel Communicator for iPhone should not upgrade their Apple devices to iOS 5 at this time and should wait until ShoreTel issues a compatible upgrade to ShoreTel Communicator.

Customers who utilize ShoreTel Mobility may upgrade to iOS 5 at this time if they do not utilize ShoreTel Communicator and if they are willing to accept the dialog boxes that do not display properly but remain functional. When ShoreTel Mobility Release 4.6 is available, the ShoreTel RoamAnywhere Client for iOS will contain fixes for these minor iOS 5 compatibility issues.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: I downgrade my Apple iOS device from iOS 5 to iOS 4.3.x?
A: Apple does not officially support downgrading from iOS 5 to an earlier version at this time. If we find in the future that Apple posts downgrade instructions on their support site, we will update this FAQ with details and issue a KB article on the ShoreTel support website.

Q: Is ShoreTel Communicator compatible with the iPhone 4S?
A: No. At this time since the iPhone 4S is only supported with iOS 5, the application is not currently supported until ShoreTel releases an updated version on the AppStore.

Q: When will an iOS 5 version of ShoreTel Communicator become available?
A: We have already started work on this and we expect the update to be available for customers on or before November 4, 2011. This time includes the standard 2-week review and approval cycle that Apple gives as guidance once applications have been submitted for review. Once Apple reviews and approves the new application, an update will become available in the Apple AppStore to enable users to easily update the application.

Q: Where will I get the ShoreTel Mobility 4.6 update once it becomes available?
A: The application will be available when we issue the product release notice for the 4.6 Release. The application will be available on the Apple AppStore under the company name ShoreTel where previously it was listed under Agito Networks.
